Prior to that, Joan directed Change of Life and Blues for Mister Charlie and appeared as the mother in Born to be Blue, Elizabeth in In Memoriam and Peg in Telling Dad. Joan also appeared at the Grove Street Playhouse in the children's productions of Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, and The Littlest Mermaid as well as appearing as Mrs. Morehead in a staged reading of The Women.
